Amsterdam Twestival announces local charities

Once again we are starting with zero budget and creating an event to benefit good causes and the community through the power of Twitter. With the same goal as back in February, every euro raised through sponsorship and ticket sales will go to charity. Our first event raised Euros 2,653 in aid of charity: water who provide clean safe drinking water to third world countries.

This time we are setting our sights even higher with the goal to raise funds which will be equally distributed to 6 selected national charities. In addition, we intend to share feedback and keep you updated on the charities following the Twestival event. De Regenboog Groep is a non-profit foundation that provides daily care and support to men and women effected by homelessness, drug addiction, social and psychiatric issues in Amsterdam. Founded in May 2002, KiKa (Kinderen Kankervrij) is dedicated to raising funds for research into the cause, prevention, treatment and cure of childhood cancer. The newest gene research provides our seven chosen national medical and academic centers with the support to continue their important work in improving treatments and developing a cure for children affected by cancer.

The Nobel Foundation is a group of creative people from the field of communications who volunteer their time to raise awareness and funds for social causes through creative means. The newest project ‘Honey Bee Happening’ aims to educate the public on the invaluable role of the honey bee and the threat of its extinction. In cooperation with local bee keepers, the Nobel Foundation plans to install beehives on selected rooftops throughout Amsterdam to promote urban breeding.

HandsOn Microkrediet is the first privately funded charity within the Netherlands aimed at supporting impoverished individuals with loans (micro-credit) and coaching to develop their skills and abilities to realise their potential as a micro-entrepreneur and sustain an income from self-employment.

CliniClowns Nederland provides a distraction to children suffering from illness, trauma or disability by playing with the children, placing them in a situation in which they have control. We currently have around 70 CliniClowns working in more than 100 hospitals and other care institutions throughout the Netherlands. In association with Neuzenroode.nl, we are able to communicate with children being nursed at home via webcams, creating a virtual world in which the children can do all sorts of adventurous exploring. We also organize events and tours to reach even more sick and/or disabled children in need of our services.

Wakker Dieris an animal rights organisation that campaigns against the factory farming of animals. We speak up for the animals, give them a voice. We believe that all animals should have access to roam outdoors, receive anesthetic before any medical procedures and no longer endure long distance transportation. Our campaigns have successfully banned battery eggs, foie gras, un-sedated castration of pigs and removed white veal from all Dutch supermarket shelves. Wake up! Support Wakker Dier.

Thanks to the generosity of EF/AVHHF all donations and ticket sales are being matched through March 25 up to $100,000.
